Our founder, the great grandfather of the family, started the business of arms and ammunition in 1874 AD in the reign of His Excellency Nawab Mir Mahboob Ali Khan, the Nizam VI of Hyderabad, under British rule. The business was continued by Janab Mohammed Bashiruddin Sahab.
After independence, the arms dealership licence was reissued by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Board of Revenue, Andhra Pradesh.
The business was successfully managed by Gulam Dastagir Rafiq Sharfi Sahab (GDR) from 1973 and was renamed M/s. Rafiq Armoury, at Shop No. 22-7-19, 20, Alladin Building, Pathergatti, Charminar Road, near Madina Building, in the old city of Hyderabad. Janab G. D. Rafiq passed away on 19 November 1991.
The late G. D. Rafiq Sahab was a brilliant armourer and a person of outstanding personality who invented many new concepts in the field of armoury. An expert in arms repairs, he was widely known across India for his workmanship.
After his demise, Alhaj Mohammed Sirajuddin Shafiq took over the entire family and business responsibility at the age of 21 and developed the business to a leading position in the arms and ammunition trade. Today his children, Alhaj Gulam Dastafiq Rafiq Sharfi and Alhaj Gulam Mujtaba Shujath, carry the same business into its fifth generation.
On the occasion of the 134 years centenary celebrations on 12 July 2008, M/s. Gun Affairs — a sub concern of M/s. Rafiq Armoury — was inaugurated to serve customers in the new city at Banjara Hills Road No. 3, Hyderabad, with the blessings and guardianship of the beloved mother, Mrs. G. D. Rafiq.
The 50th year of Rafiq Armoury and the 150 years sesquicentennial celebrations, along with the inauguration and shifting of M/s. Gun Affairs, were held on Thursday 18 August 2022 by Alhaj Janab Mahmood Ali Sahab, Home Minister, Telangana. Chief Guest: Naqeeb-e-Millat Alhaj Janab Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi Sahab, MP (Lok Sabha), Hyderabad, and President AIMIM. Guest of Honour: Alhaj Janab Jaffar Hussain Mehraj Sahib, MLA Nampally, Hyderabad.
